I will bring decades of experience coupled with a fresh perspective as I listen to your voice and work with the other Board Members to prioritize and strengthen our students' opportunities.

HOW WE PUT OUR STUDENTS FIRST

I believe that we all have a vested interest in having a solid public school system (primary, middle, secondary) that places the emphasis on including ALL students.  I see our students at the core of our community circle.  They are the individuals who will be joining our future workforce, neighborhoods and voting.

I believe we need to consistently support our teachers; as they are our daily "boots on the ground," ensuring our students come first.  Teachers are the key to student success throughout their academic career and it is of utmost importance that the Board keeps that in view when making decisions.

I believe our society offers numerous avenues to build a career.  The need to support the various routes to employment after high school (college prep, trades, military, direct to work, community college, junior college) cannot be overlooked as all our students prepare for graduation and their future.

In order to plan for our schools' current operations and futures, ideas should come from all facets of our community (current teachers, former teachers, parents, students, administration and members of the community).  My job, as a School Board Member, will be to listen, learn and determine if the presented idea will put the students first.

BUDGET REVIEW

We must make sure our students and the community are getting our monies worth.  My job, as a School Board Member, will be to look at the budget and understand the expected outcomes for the spend.  I will review the current monies that the good taxpayers of ISD 197 are already paying and make certain we are being fiscally responsible.

To note, the annual operating budget is $78,045,000 (per the Director of Finance for ISD 197).  This annual operating budget covers 5 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 1 high school and 4 early childhood programs.

I will look for programs that are working to put the students first.  I will review program efficiencies and push for a reallocation of programs and money spent towards those that are working and put the students first.  Let's make how our tax dollars impact the future of our community a priority.

LEVIES & REFERENDUMS

I want to better understand and make more transparent to the community the bonding and operating levy process.  Why does it happen when it does?  Why is voting for these items taking place in off-year elections and in non-traditional voting months?  I believe these votes should occur on presidential election years, as they have the highest voter turn out.  This will ensure the highest percentage of our community's voice being heard.  Since the bond and operating levy process is a way to pay for the vision of the District and Board, my job as a School Board Member, will be to make sure that vision puts the students first.
